1. The Diameter Mismatch: 3/4″ vs 1/2″

If you buy a high-end chiller with 3/4-inch hoses but your tub only has 1/2-inch ports, the hoses will simply not fit. You will require a 3/4″ to 1/2″ Reducer Adapter.

2. The Gender Problem: Male vs Female Threads

Plumbing connections rely on threaded mating surfaces. These are governed by standards like NPT (National Pipe Thread) or BSP (British Standard Pipe). Regardless of the standard, the most crucial aspect is the “gender” of the thread.

Step-by-Step: Connecting Your Chiller

Follow these engineering best practices to set up your Soundhon Water Chiller perfectly on the first try.

Assess the Tub Ports

Identify the lower and upper ports on your tub. Check if the threads are on the outside (Male) or inside (Female). Measure the diameter. If it’s a Soundhon Tub, you can skip this—it’s standard 3/4″ Male.

Apply the Included Adapters (If Necessary)

If your tub has 1/2″ or Female threads, take the specific adapter from your Soundhon accessory kit. Wrap the male threads with Teflon (PTFE) tape 3-4 times in a clockwise direction to ensure a watertight seal, then screw the adapter into the tub port.

Connect the Filter and Intake (Water Out of Tub)

Connect one end of the hose to the lower port of the tub. Connect the other end to the “IN” port of the water filter housing, then from the filter to the “IN” port of the chiller. Ensure the rubber O-rings are seated flat inside the female hose nuts before tightening.

Connect the Return (Water Into Tub)

Connect a hose from the “OUT” port of the chiller directly to the upper port of the bathtub. Tighten firmly by hand—do not over-tighten with wrenches as this can crack plastic fittings.

Fill and Prime

Fill the tub with water until the level is at least 2 inches above the upper return port. Open the air bleed valve on your chiller or filter housing (if applicable) until water flows steadily, proving the pump is primed and ready. Learn more about water stabilization.
